Chevy News – The 2026 GMC Canyon is a mid-size truck that packs the power and capability of its bigger siblings. Sharing its mechanical base with Chevy’s Colorado, the Canyon features a robust 310-hp turbocharged four-cylinder engine and an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Inside, the Canyon sets itself apart with a unique instrument panel, materials, and trim accents that give the cabin a refined feel.
GMC Canyon: 2026 Design, Specs
For 2026, GMC offers the Canyon in five different trims: Elevation, AT4, Denali, AT4X, and the new AT4X AEV. The 2026 Canyon comes as a crew cab model with a 5-foot-2-inch bed. It measures 213.2 inches long, 72.4 inches wide, and 79.8 inches tall.
Passengers in the back have 38.3 inches of headroom and 34.7 inches of legroom. The truck’s bed offers 41.9 cubic feet of cargo space, providing plenty of room for your gear.
So what’s new? GMC keeps most of the new-generation Canyon the same but introduces the powerful AEV Edition to its off-road AT4X trim. This new model features unique 17-inch AEV wheels with big 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler MT tires, extra strong skid plates, and AEV steel bumpers. It also stands 1.5 inches taller than the regular AT4X, giving it a total of 12.2 inches of ground clearance, making it ready for serious off-road adventures.
How about the infotainment system?
In the 2026 model, Every GMC Canyon comes with a large 11.3-inch touchscreen for infotainment, and all models have Wi-Fi hotspot capability along with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
The AT4 trim offers wireless phone charging, while the Denali and AT4X trims include it as standard. Even the base Elevation trim comes with GM’s Hitch View and Hitch Guidance system to help you easily connect a trailer.
The Denali and AT4X trims also feature a 360-degree camera as standard, which provides a full view around the truck. If you choose a lower trim, you can add this camera system for an extra cost.
How about the safety features?
The 2026 GMC Canyon comes with a standard Pro Safety package that includes important driver-assistance features. This package offers forward-collision warning and automated emergency braking, as well as lane-departure warning and lane-keeping assist. Key safety features in the 2026 Canyon:
- Available adaptive cruise control
- Standard forward-collision warning and automated emergency braking
- Standard lane-departure warning and lane-keeping assist
You can also choose to add adaptive cruise control for extra convenience.
2026 GMC Canyon Engine
The 2026 GMC Canyon comes with a powerful 310-hp turbocharged 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine, which provides 430 lb-ft of torque. It’s paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and comes with rear-wheel drive as standard, but we recommend choosing the optional four-wheel drive for better performance.
| Engine Type | Horsepower & Torque |
| Turbocharged 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine | 310hp & 430 lb-ft of torque |
This engine offers more power and torque than the V-6 engines in competitors like the Honda Ridgeline, Jeep Gladiator, and Toyota Tacoma. However, like the Chevy Colorado, the Canyon no longer offers the Duramax Diesel engine. The Canyon also features well-balanced steering and a firm brake pedal, giving it a solid and reliable feel on the road.

How about payload and towing capacity? The 2026 GMC Canyon can tow up to 7,700 pounds with the Elevation, AT4, and Denali trims. If you choose the AT4X trim, it can tow up to 6,000 pounds, and with the Edition 1 package, the AT4X’s towing capacity drops to 5,500 pounds.
Fuel Economy
According to EPA, The most fuel-efficient GMC Canyon is the rear-wheel drive Elevation model, which gets about 18 miles per gallon in the city and 23 mpg on the highway.
If you choose a four-wheel drive Canyon, it will use a bit more fuel, with an estimated 17 mpg city and 21 mpg highway. Canyons with mud-terrain tires have similar fuel efficiency, getting around 17 mpg in the city and 20 mpg on the highway.
2026 GMC Canyon Warranty
The GMC Canyon comes with a good warranty and maintenance plan. It has a limited warranty for three years or 36,000 miles and a powertrain warranty for five years or 60,000 miles. You’ll also get one free maintenance visit in the first year.
However, it’s worth noting that while GMC’s Canyon gives good protection against rust and great roadside help, its rival, Toyota’s Tacoma provide a little better maintenance coverage.

Which Canyon Model Do We Recommend?
If you’re considering a GMC Canyon but want to spend wisely, we recommend the Canyon AT4. While the Canyon Denali is more expensive and offers a luxurious touch, it costs a lot for a mid-size pickup.
The 2026 GMC Canyon AT4, on the other hand, provides great value with standard features like four-wheel drive, an 11.3-inch infotainment screen, and a 2.0-inch lift, all at a lower price. It also comes with heated front seats, manual adjustments, and a handy remote start. The AT4 gives you plenty of features without breaking the bank.
